Leadville Area 14’er Skiing

‘Good Livin’ at 10,200′ is what the sign says as you pull into Leadville, CO….the highest town in the US. This also means big mountains and good snow as well, as winter here can seem to last forever. 4 of Colorado’s 10 highest peaks reside here in the Sawatch Range just outside of Leadville, including Mount Elbert the state’s highest peak, and the second highest peak in the continental US. This area offers an abundance of backcountry ski terrain, some great hut skiing in the 10th Mountain Hut Division system of huts, and some great ski mountaineering terrain.

When conditions allow, 4,500+’ feet of vertical can be had on these giant peaks that tower above the Arkansas Valley and allow ski mountaineering challenges for people of all abilities, from technical roped climbs and black-diamond ski runs, to mellow ridge hikes and wide open moderate angle slopes, bowls, and glades, this area has some classic Colorado ski mountaineering objectives.

Join us for a guided backcountry ski or snowboard tour or for a challenging multi-day ski mountaineering summit attempt and ski descent of one of Colorado’s famed 14,000′ mountains.
