Whether you're a skier, snowboarder or snowmobiler - our avalanche safety courses will make your favorite activities safer and more enjoyable. Learning how to use avalanche beacons and travel safely in the backcountry is a necessary tool for any serious winter enthusiast. All our avalanche courses follow the curriculum and guidelines set forth by AIARE (American Institute of Avalanche Research & Education). These courses are designed for all winter backcountry users, from recreational skiers, snowboarders, climbers, snowmobilers, and snowshoers to professional level ski guides, ski patrollers, and other winter backcountry guides.

Crested Butte is an ideal setting and classroom to study and learn the intricacies of the winter snowpack. Our classroom space located in the center of downtown is easy to access and provides a comfortable learning environment. For field sessions, the Crested Butte backcountry is easily accessed a short 5-10 min. drive from town, allowing for quick and extended immersion in the backcountry environment. All our avalanche course instructors are AIARE qualified instructors, and have some level of AMGA Ski Guide or Ski Mountaineering Guide training or certification, and many also work as avalanche forecasters for the local Crested Butte Avalanche Center.
Leave the crowded runs of the ski resort behind, and take a night away from the 'usual' hotels and experience the remote and cozy feel of a Colorado Hut Trip. Enjoy untracked powder fields and pristine mountain valleys during the days, and spend your nights tucked away in the comfortable and cozy atmosphere of a small alpine hut or cabin, tucked underneath the shadows of majestic Colorado peaks.

After a day of backcountry skiing or riding, or cross-country skiing, put your feet up by the woodstove and enjoy a home cooked meal prepared for you by your guide.
