Sunday, June 30th : Intermediate Rock Skills
FOCUS: Gear placement, and building anchors.
Suggested prerequisites: belaying, rapelling, knots: figure-eight on a bite, clove hitch, double-fisherman’s and bowline.
This day is all about the “nuts and bolts” of climbing. You will become familiar with different types of gear and will learn how to correctly place and evaluate gear. We will also visit the art of anchor building and the theory of what makes an anchor safe. This course is ideally suited for those with some climbing background who want to learn more about traditional gear and move toward lead and multi-pitch climbing. Gear placement and anchor building take time and repetition to become proficient, therefore, this course will be taught on the ground, with minimal time spent actually rock climbing.
